A wide variety of cultures and language groups, including many Native ones. Eight official languages (Chipewyan, Cree, Dogrib, English, French, Gwich'in, Inuktitut, and Slavey). Very large (1.17 million square kilometers). Overwhelming amounts of stunning scenery that's mostly if not entirely pristine and untouched by humans.

In April, 1999, the territory of Nunavut, formerly the eastern and northern part of the Northwest Territories, became an independent entity with its own government.
