Immig

The Citizenship and Immigration Canada site is an invaluable resource. It gives you a realistic idea of what your chances of coming in as an independent immigrant are, and tells you how to apply — it even has all the application forms online in Adobe Acrobat format. A good place to ask questions about immigrating is the Usenet newsgroup misc.immigration.canada. Quite a few immigration lawyers post there, and some offer free assessments of your chances of getting in. One of the lawyers, David Cohen, maintains a growing Web page about immigration information and resources. If you can’t find what you need on any of the linked pages, please don’t send me mail — I’m just a private US citizen who immigrated to Canada in 1998, and I don’t know a lot of the technical details of applying from other countries, or what services Canada provides to new immigrants, or anything like that. Please ask on Usenet instead. You’re a lot more likely to find help there.
